Preschool/Kindergarten
  • Risk Watch Program--children ages 3-5. Stories, games, and hands-on activities teach children basic safety information and how to handle dangerous situations. Lessons are taught monthly. Topics include: Fire/Burn Prevention, Water Safety, Poison Prevention, Fall Prevention, Motor Vehicle Safety, Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety.
  • Code Red Rover
    This animated/live-action video will help teach children to spot common home dangers and take actions with parents and caregivers to correct them. Created by the Home Safety Council.
  • Be Cool About Fire Safety
    This animated/live-action will help teach children the basics of fire safety. Created by Allstate.
School Age
  • Risk Watch Partnership Program--elementary age. Games and hands-on activities teach children how to protect themselves from unintentional injuries. Lessons are thought monthly by fire personnel. Teachers are encouraged to teach follow-up lessons (provided) throughout the month. Topics include: Fire Prevention, Escaping from Fire, Smoke Alarms, Water Safety, Poison Prevention, Fall Prevention, Motor Vehicle Safety, Bicycle Safety and Stranger Awareness.
  • Risk Watch Partnership Follow-up Surveys*
    Students complete survey forms to assess how much knowledge they have retained from the Risk Watch. These can be done as in-class or take-home assignments. Families complete a safety checklist.
    *Forms are approved by the MSD of Pike Township School Administration.
  • W.A.R.N. Program (Water Awareness in Residential Neighborhoods)
    Multi-media lesson on water awareness and safety. Students learn about the dangers of open bodies of water-- i.e. retention ponds, floodwaters, and streams--and how to protect themselves from drowning. Older students also explore common household drowning risks from the perspective of babysitting.
  • Get Ready with Freddie!
    Disaster preparedness program teaches children how to work with their families to prepare for unexpected emergencies.
Any Age
  • Hazard Detectives
    Using the Hazard House, a computerized 3-D model of a home, participants find and correct common fire and injury risks around the home.
  • Home Escape Planning
    When fire strikes, it is too late to begin thinking about how you will escape! Learn what you need to do to get your family ready!
  • All-Ways Safe At Home
    An educational program spanning multiple life stages to teach about home fire safety and burn prevention.
  • Poison Prevention
    Learn about the hidden dangers in your home, and what you can do to prevent accidental poisoning.
  • Disaster Preparedness
    Helping families to work together to prepare for emergencies.
Senior Citizens
  • Remembering When
    Interactive program designed around a nostalgia theme. Topics include preventing falls, preventing fires, and planning for emergencies.
  • Safe Steps
    Video and activities to help older adults prevent falling. The national program promotes preventative, low-cost solutions and simple behavioral changes to enhance personal safety and independence.
